A long love story, seen through the memories of a young couple: recollections altered by moods, their different perspectives, and time itself. The journey through the years of two individuals, united, divided, happy, unhappy, deeply in love, or in love with others, in a single stream of emotions and shades of feeling. Over the course of the film, he learns that love can indeed last, while she learns to live with nostalgia. Their memories, as well, change over time: fading or else bursting with happiness, in a present that fast slips away, becoming memories.

Filmography

2018 Ricordi?
2009 Dieci Inverni

"Is it nostalgia that makes everything wonderful, and we invent some perfect happiness that never existed, or were we really happy, but we didn't know until later? This question was my starting point. Just how memories permeate our existences is a fascinating theme to bring to the screen, because your subject isn't just life, but the experience of life; you're making a film that is emotionally subjective. I hope the story of the characters resonates with each of us, with our memories and emotions; our lives, I feel, are a single stream of sensations and memory."
After earning a degree in philosophy from the Sapienza University of Rome, Valerio Mieli studied at Columbia University and started a doctorate at the University of Eastern Piedmont before going on to graduate with a degree in directing from the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. His directorial debut, Dieci inverni, starring Isabella Ragonese and Michele Riondino, won the Silver Ribbon award, the Ciak d'oro, and a David di Donatello for best first film. His novel of the same name was published by Rizzoli. In 2013, Rome's Casa del Cinema hosted a solo show of Mieli's photographs. Ricordi?, which he wrote as well as directed, is his second film.
