Making films and TV series the COVID-19 era
In Italy, there's been talk of a crisis in the film industry for a long time now - too long. True, production of TV series pre-COVID-19 was visibly booming, thanks to the increase in players investing in original productions made in Italy, and 2019 was a particularly good year, and looks like a paradise lost from here. But the truth is, the film industry has been struggling on different fronts for years now. The present crisis, with the spring lockdown behind us yet the prospects uncertain, is an opportunity to discuss what we can expect in the future, now that filmmaking and filmgoing have practically ground to a halt.
So just what are the changes in store for films and TV series in the making, due to the novel coronavirus? Is it going to be more complicated to write, produce and distribute them, from now on? While it's hard to be upbeat, other sectors - like remote learning and telecommuting - have shown that times of crisis suggest original solutions that hold great promise for our future.
This talk has been arranged by the associazione 100autori as part of the 2020 Giornate event lineup. Moderators Giacomo Durzi and Luca Scivoletto will be discussing the challenges of the COVID 19-era with writers, directors, producers, distributors and other professionals attending the Venice Film Festival.
