In a cave in the Apuan Alps, 650 meters below ground, one of the most intriguing and ambitious works by sculptor Filippo Dobrilla can be found: The Sleeping Giant. It's a colossal reclining nude, slumbering in the recesses of the earth, and the artist worked on it for over thirty years, lowering himself into the darkness of the cave. What drives an artist to create a work that is virtually inaccessible, hidden from the human eye? This is the question that Caveman - The Hidden Giant attempts to answer, ranging from the lead character's youthful loves to his desire to withdraw from the world and his conception of pure art. When Dobrilla immersed himself in the cave's shadows, he sought refuge in the only place he felt free, sheltered from and far from prejudice and the pressure of modern society. The unexpected discovery that he had cancer would radically change his lifestyle.

"I heard about Filippo Dobrilla by chance when, in a tiny village in the Apuan Alps, in Tuscany, two hunters talked about a statue carved into the very heart of the marble mountains overhanging the village. They didn't know what it was a statue of, since the site was too deep and inaccessible, but they were sure it was there. What I assumed was a local legend turned out to be true: the statue really existed, and so did its creator. When I met Filippo, I was immediately intrigued by his silent magnetism. I followed his career for almost four years: our artistic partnership turned into a real friendship, and Filippo let me into his inner world and allowed to come along with him on his final journey, the disease that would kill him. Caveman - The Hidden Giant is a tribute to an exceptional artist and a complex human being: the story of a man whose mystery will be preserved at the bottom of a dark cave." [Tommaso Landucci]

After receiving a degree in directing from the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome, Tommaso Landucci (Lucca, 1989) got his start in film in 2021, as an assistant director to Claudio Giovvanesi during the filming of Alì Blue Eyes, and to Luca Guadagnino on A Bigger Splash. On this occasion he met the Oscar®winning director James Ivory, who became his mentor and the executive producer of his first narrative feature, currently at the financing stage, called "The Levitants." Landucci is currently developing two projects: "Re di Venere", co-written with the novelist Michela Murgia, and "I figli della scimmia", shortlisted for the 2021 Solinas Award.
