The award will be handed to the filmmaker on September 2nd at 4:45 pm, in the Sala Perla, at Giornate degli Autori

In the ongoing partnership between Giornate degli Autori and SIAE, the Italian Society of Authors and Publishers reaffirms its historic support for the twentieth edition of the independent sidebar of the Venice Film Festival, devoted to auteur cinema, by promoting the master filmmakers of contemporary Italian film. As of this year, the SIAE Award is dedicated to the late Andrea Purgatori, filmmaker, journalist, and Giornate president.

The SIAE Andrea Purgatori Lifetime Achievement Award goes to Luca Guadagnino, one of Italy’s most acclaimed filmmakers today, a festival favorite lauded by critics and audiences of all kinds. After Bones and All, winner of the Silver Lion at the 2022 Venice Film Festival, Guadagnino is back on the Lido this year to receive the prize that went to Gianni Amelio last year.

Salvatore Nastasi, president of the Italian Society of Authors and Publishers, has released the following statement about the winner of this year’s award:
“A filmmaker whose gaze succeeds in wedding the art of Italian storytelling to the production mastery of the world’s greatest directors, by means of a rare sensibility and authenticity that puts his personal stamp on our cinema. From the 1990s to today, Luca Guadagnino has been the director and screenwriter of our all too human passions and excesses; he has laid bare the quirks of the bourgeoisie and explored the potential of genre cinema. He has taken on film in all its shapes and sizes, from short films to documentaries, feature films, and TV series. Films like Melissa P., I Am Love, and Call Me by Your Name are proud expressions of contemporary Italy’s filmmaking craft that have become modern classics.”

Luca Guadagnino has declared: “I am proud to be a SIAE member, and for over twenty years now, and it has always made me feel part of a large family in a warm home. It’s a great honor, therefore, for me to receive such a prestigious award, and represents a milestone in my career.”
