For the last seventeen years, Marie Losier has filmed the singer Peaches, the queen of Electropunk and a true feminist queer icon. Between jam-packed concerts, a close relationship with her sister Suri, and the staging of her first opera, Peaches always feels the urge to reinvent herself and explore boundaries. On- and off-stage, an intimate portrait on an inspiring, taboo-shattering artist with boundless energy, embracing every phase of life and turning her body into art.

“In Peaches Goes Bananas, I painted the portrait of a woman and, more importantly, an artist with whom I identify on several levels. Past the fifties, I feel the body changing and yet the need to keep creating and experimenting as much as the younger generations is stronger than ever. In 2006, during the filming of the feature-length film The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye, I randomly met Peaches. This was the beginning of a 17-year-long shoot and friendship. Over the years, an intimate portrait emerges with Peaches on and off stage. The footage reveals the creative process of this artist; a transgressive queer icon, an uncompromising feminist, a woman in constant transformation. I am touched by her perseverance and her tireless energy to experiment and place her body at the center of her art with great beauty and freedom. Peaches constantly questions and redefines the boundaries of her identity. Her work is committed, rebellious, and playful with irreverent and insolent strength. The need to experiment, to reinvent oneself, the need to live fully, freely, and face the norms and hostilities, by loving, dancing, creating, remains at the center of my work.” (Marie Losier)

Filmmaker Marie Losier has worked in New York City for twenty-three years and has shown her films and videos at museums, galleries, biennials and festivals. She has made numerous portraits on avant-garde directors, musicians and composers, such as the Kuchar brothers, Guy Maddin, Richard Foreman, Tony Conrad, Genesis P-Orridge, Alan Vega, Peter Hristoff and Felix Kubin. Losier’s films have been shown at prestigious venues such as the Cannes Film Festival, Le Jeu de Paume, the Berlinale, Rotterdam, IDFA, The Tate Modern, MoMA, Le Palais de Tokyo, and the Centre Georges Pompidou. In 2018, she had a retrospective of her films at MoMA in New York, and another was held at Le Jeu De Paume-the Museum of Contemporary Art in Paris in 2019. Her recent film Cassandro The Exotico! premiered at Cannes ACID in 2018. Marie Losier is preparing two solo exhibitions at Le Creux de L’Enfer in Thiers, slated for October 2024, and at the Contemporary Museum/Transpalette in Bourges in 2025.
