The film is the story of two women seemingly very different, yet who actually closely resemble each other. Anna is conflicted, on the outs with her own family, and facing an illness on her own, while Cristi has fled a war that keeps her far away from her home. Everyone tells Anna to accompany her partner on a business trip; Cristi is told to stay in Italy, where she’s safe. Their brief encounter will be a dash for freedom.

2016 Acqua di Marzo
2013 Spaghetti Story

“Shooting this film gives me the chance to continue to explore a kind of filmmaking that is rigorous yet freewheeling at the same time. The story is an intense chance encounter in which my own aim is to be a silent, discreet presence, observing the lives of these two women in hopes of capturing something intimate and very true, yet with a light touch, raw and judgment-free, despite the extremely personal gaze I bring to bear on their story.” (Ciro De Caro)

After making his first short films while still at film school, Ciro De Caro started out directing commercials. In 2013, he made his first feature film, Spaghetti Story, a small independent film that unexpectedly garnered audience and critical acclaim. Three years later, he directed his second film, Acqua di marzo, while continuing, over the years, to experiment with self-produced short films. In 2021, his third feature film, Giulia, premiered at Giornate degli Autori and received many accolades and nods for national and international awards. Taxi Monamour is De Caro’s fourth feature film.
