SIDE BY SIDE: THE DECLARATION OF FILMMAKERS

01 September 14:00 - Hotel Excelsior – Italian Pavilion
Free entrance

The “Declaration des Cinéastes”, presented at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival for the first time, was a defense of filmmakers’ intellectual property rights – rights challenged by production modes in the era of streaming platforms. It has now become a fixture on the festival calendar at Venice, a session bringing European filmmakers together to debate the toughest problems faced by the industry. The issues covered at this year’s meeting, organized by ANAC, 100autori, WGI and AIDAC, together with France’s ARP and SRF, and in collaboration with FERA, concern two hot-button topics that threaten freedom of expression and creative freedom at large:
The future direction of the E.U.’s audiovisual policy in light of the recent elections, with shifts in the Parliament’s political balance; policy changes might well challenge the ‘cultural exception’, the budget for Creative Europe, and the developments in legislation.
The evolution of juridical regulations concerning A.I.
Speakers include Claude Lelouch, Radu Mihaileanu (ARP), Marine Francen (SRF), Mimmo Calopresti (ANAC), Giacomo Durzi (100autori), Giorgio Glaviano (WGI), Toni Biocca (AIDAC). Moderator: Francesco Ranieri Martinotti (Giornate degli Autori).
