There comes a time in everyone’s life when we need to start figuring out what our place in the world is. Caterina, for one, is in her twenties and wants to be a musician, but she’s paralyzed by fear and insecurity. One summer she meets her idol, the French singer Mia, and gets to know her. It is the beginning of a complex relationship that will accompany Caterina over the years and finally allow her to find home. Almost.
2024 Quasi a casa
“The characters of Caterina and Mia began to take shape in my mind when I myself was facing the delicate moment of ‘starting out’, trying to find my own path in adult life. The more I imagined the two interacting, the more I was curious about digging into the dynamics of their complex relationship. Caterina and Mia are not friends, nor lovers; they are not mother and daughter, neither do they work together: it was exactly the ‘undefinable’ nature of this bond that captured me and I wanted to explore it. The premises of this relationship may seem incredibly magical, but Caterina will soon realize how dangerous it can be. We never stop being afraid and feeling insecure, but when we understand that we belong to a place we can call ‘home’, we should do everything we can to never lose it.” (Carolina Pavone)
From 2017 to 2019, Carolina Pavone attended the directing program at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. She has worked as an AD to Nanni Moretti on the films Mia madre, Three Floors and A Brighter Tomorrow, and with Leonardo Guerra Seragnoli on Likemeback and The Time of Indifference. Quasi a casa is her first feature film.
