In 1961, United Nations secretary-general Dag Hammarskjöld's plane mysteriously crashed, killing Hammarskjöld and most of the crew. It was clear from the start that this was no mere accident, but a full-blown execution. With the case still unsolved 50-plus years later, Danish journalist, filmmaker, and provocateur Mads Brügger leads us down an investigative rabbit hole to unearth the truth.

Mads Brügger is a journalist, television host, producer, screenwriter and filmmaker. He has written several books, worked for magazines and newspapers, and produced award-winning radio programs. In 2004 he wrote and directed the satirical docuseries Danes for Bush. In 2007 and 2008, he hosted the critically acclaimed late-night television show The 11th Hour. He made his filmmaking debut in 2009, with the documentary The Red Chapel (World Cinema Documentary Grand Jury Prize, 2010 Sundance Film Festival), and followed that up with The Ambassador two years later. Just last year, Brügger made his first narrative feature film, St. Bernard Syndicate, which won the award for Best Screenplay (by Lærke Sanderhoff) and Best Actor (Rasmus Bruun) at Tribeca. Cold Case Hammarskjöld premiered at Sundance, where it won the Directing Award.
