Manuel López-Vidal is a beloved politician in his region: he enjoys a good social standing, has a loving family, friends everywhere and plenty of natural charisma. He is also a corrupt politician who has been siphoning off public funds for his own use for years. After attempting to cover up for an associate, Manuel is left exposed. To his surprise, the Party's members seek to place the blame for the entire plot on his shoulders. But he will not surrender. How far is a person willing to go in order to hold on to power?

Rodrigo Sorogoyen studied film at the School of Cinematography and Audiovisual of the Community of Madrid and started his professional career as a screenwriter for TV series. In 2008, he co-helmed 8 citas (8 Dates), his first feature, with Peris Romano. Five years later, he co-directed Stockholm with Borja Soler; the film went on to won three awards at the Malaga Festival. In 2016, his film Que Dios nos perdone (May God Save Us, 2016) won the Jury Prize for Best Screenplay at San Sebastián and the Goya for Best Lead Actor (Roberto Álamo). El Reino racked up seven Goyas and premiered at Toronto and San Sebastián.
